Haleth for the character meme?

  • What I like about them

Is there literally anything not to like about Haleth? She reminds me of some of the badass ladies from Czech mythology, like Libuše or Vlasta

  • What I dislike about them

Like many of Tolkien’s characters, she’s in and out of the narrative before we can learn very much about her. 😦

Also, in terms of how the fandom portrays her, I don’t go in for young, willowy, smudged-eyeliner interpretations of Haleth. I prefer her to be older and a little harder worn.

  • Favourite moment

Well, her turning Caranthir down flat and living on her own terms in elven territory comes to mind…

  • Least favourite moment

Does killing a metric shit ton of orcs count? NAAAHHH, the orcs were prolly just like “eh, that’s fair.” I mean if anyone can appreciate a viciously independent warrior queen it’s orcs. Probably.

  • A situation with this character that I want to see explored more

OKAY WELL, PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING, but I’m a sucker for battle scenarios though, so maybe the point at which the Haladin first arrive in Thargelion, thinking perhaps they’ve outrun whatever horrors are chasing them now that they’re in elf-protected lands, only to discover that the new country is not safe at all. I’d like to see Haleth having to take command in the field directly after her father died, keeping her people alive in increasingly desperate straights until backup arrives.

  • An interesting AU for this character

Haleth making a truce with a lady-orc commander. *3*
Also, total timeline fuckery aside, her meeting Turin would be kinda cool.

  • OTP (or OT3+ etc)

I don’t have one for her, and I don’t think she had one for her either.

  • Other ships

I can see her taking lovers or even long-term partners without ever marrying them or having kids. But also, I think by the time she becomes the Halad, she’s probably pretty settled in to the whole Single Matriarch lifestyle and isn’t looking for romantic companionship.

  • BROTP

I’d love to see her with some OC Haladin characters!!! *3*

  • NOTP

Caranthir ahhahhaahha get fucked buddy

  • An assortment of headcanons

Valkyrie from Mad Max would make a great faceclaim for a young Haleth???

A capella Maire: a bit of L Del Rey’s “The Blackest Day.”

For Doegred. Admit it. You love it when I tease you.

The Noldo’s eyes might be shining with a coldly dangerous light, but he listens in perfect silence, his very breaths hitching with the rhythm of the Maia’s voice.

The song makes the air billow, still the Noldo stands unmoved, like the rock parting a stream’s waters.

Maeglin Outfit Concepts– RivkaZ 2016

Some spoopy courtly outfit designs in preparation for an upcoming project! I think #5 is my winner for this round…

I’ve whined about drawing Maeglin before on this blog; he’s really hard for me to put on paper because I instinctively want to do something more complex and less generic than the version in my head (who looks like Kylo Ren and Sasuke and 8 Hot Topic employees rolled into one being), but the more I deviate from the original template, the less he feels like Maeglin to me.  So I may just… stop fighting the tide and see where that design takes me, and what quirks it develops on its own.

Wait so how does Sauron feel about the dragons then? I mean obviously someone can’t let these creatures get away with murder(metaphorically speaking anyway).

HE FEELS THEY’RE A DAMN NUISANCE, that’s what!

They’re always getting into trouble, think they’re invincible even though they have obvious weak points, full of sass, think they’re better than everyone else, sleep all the time, constantly stealing precious metals and gems and claiming they have “no idea what happened to them I haven’t seen any missing rings”, and whenever one of them fucks something up, it’s Sauron who gets to pick up the pieces. Also, they’re messy and they don’t take orders.

DRAGONS

So is Melkor like Sauron with his were wolves when he’s with his dragons?

Obligatory Caveat: These are headcanons pertaining mostly to Wesleyverse.

Sauron’s relationship with the werewolves is a working relationship. I think when he’s first sent to besiege Tol Sirion with a bunch of wolfy reserve troops, he’s actually SUPER resentful.

I mean, he’s been working in Angband, at the right hand of a Vala, with his own forge and command of central operations, and suddenly it’s like “GOOD NEWS, YOU’RE BEING PROMOTED TO LORD OF THIS BACKWATER ELF CASTLE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SWAMP! 😀 Here are your new subjects, the wolf-people. Please wear your flea collar at all times.”
That can’t have felt like a step up in the world.

I imagine that there were werewolves native to that area anyway, wild ones that had been living there for a long time, never making themselves a target for extermination by Elves. They are a useful resource for Melkor to utilize for the takeover of Tol Sirion because if he can leverage their help, he can afford to move fewer troops out of the North. They’re also much faster, scarier, and more maneuverable than Orcs. BUT they require special handling– hence the necessity to put a reliable Maia on the job.

Needless to say, the job, and the werewolves, grow on Sauron/Thû over time, to the point where he’s comfortable taking a wolf shape and running around as part of the pack.

I also think he gets used to having To-en-Gaurhoth as his personal bachelor pad; just him and the puppies and Thuringwethil and some Orcs, throwing house parties and letting it all hang out. It’s a friendly working relationship. Thû and his wolves are pretty tight, and he identifies with woflish things from then on.

Melkor’s relationship with his dragons is a little different in that they are his actual children. He is both father and mother of dragons, made with his unique and slightly unsettling demiurgical reproductive abilities. No, he doesn’t have Eru’s Secret Fire, but he does have his –own– fire, a LOT of it, and especially in the early days when he felt infinite and invincible, he parceled that out like cheap candy at Halloween to his various monster babies.

He adores them and spoils them and treats them like special snowflakes that can do no wrong. I mean, they’re basically shiny, scaly clones of himself, and Melkor LOVES himself. And dragons love THEMSELVES. And they love Melkor. And they all loooove each other– and that’s cuz none of them got enough love in their childhoods. And that’s showbiz. Kid.

Hello, dear brother. What hell have you raised this year while I was sleeping?

theotherwesley:

Sister! My dear, wherever have you been? I thought Taur na Fuin was looking more… lived in than usual.

It’s been a quiet year for me, dedicated almost solely to irritating our aquatic brethren and being drawn in lewd poses for my mun’s entertainment… forging.

For the character meme: Celebrimbor and Luthien

misbehavingmaiar:

Already did Celebrimbor, so here’s Luthien!

  • What I like about them
SURPRISE I actually really, really like Luthien.
She’s kind of just this awesome epic hero who is there to kick ass and get her boyfriend back, and to me it seems like there’s less stress put on her moral coding, or whatever— like, her successes don’t feel like they’re attributed to her virtue so much as her badassery?

She’s actually capable of subterfuge! Which leads to success, as opposed to the 99.9% failure rate of all the more noble and glorious charges against Angband! Despite being able to lie and dress up like a vampire and make Thû piss himself, she’s completely adorable???

Also in they Lay of Leithian, she’s very sweet to Carcharoth when she puts him to sleep. ;w; That wins points with me so hard. NO ONE IS EVER NICE TO THE FORCES OF DARKNESS.

  • What I dislike about them
Her description as the “fairest”. I roll my eyes at thee, descriptor.
  • Favourite moment
Yo, she fucking reads Sauron for filth and then knocks Melkor out, that shit is intense.
  • Least favourite moment
I don’t really like how she kind of disappears from the narrative as soon as the Silmaril is recaptured?
  • A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
Oh you know, her actual thoughts and feelings on stuff— you know, that thing we barely get for any of the characters in Tolkien.
  • An interesting AU for this character
Anything Dark Luthien!! *w* But also, anything where she gets to have more interaction with Team Angband?

    Aaaand I guess my headcanon that she personally fought and took Thuringwethil’s wings is actually an AU….  >v>;

  • OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
I am all for Luthien/Thuringwethil. I actually have a thing I’d like to write/draw for them someday… SOMEDAY.
  • Other ships?
I kind of… guilty-ship her and Melkor in some scenarios? MEGA-guilty ship her with Celegorm in some others???? (don’t look at meAHAHAHAi’mtrash)
  • BROTP
    UwU magic doggy friend
  • NOTP
I don’t have any particularly strong feelings in that regard i guess…
  • An assortment of headcanons!
-Luthien is aaaalllllll about that bass. ❤

-I have some fairly complex headcanons about Maiar and how they are able to distribute their powers, which helps to account for things like Huan being able to beat Thû and Luthien being able to put a Vala to sleep.
Basically, it’s just a matter of putting points into the right stats? XD Like, Sauron, who is described as being one of (if not THE most) powerful Maiar, had a lot of points to begin with, and distributed them pretty evenly across all his stats. But a smaller Maia, like Huan, could take a shape and just PUT EVERYTHING THEY GOT into ONE category and come out superior in that element.
My theory is that Huan was a Maia or Oromë who had some grievance with Sauron in the Spring of Arda that led him to take a shape into which he basically poured all of his points into a specific destiny, which was to kick Sauron’s ass at some future date. He gave up changing shape and even speaking (more than three times, anyway) for the sake of being able to do this one thing. Luthien is similar, in that she’s got only half of Melian’s power, but it’s ALL put into the Songs and Illusions category— and Song magic is powerful stuff, as we know! The fabric of Arda is music-based, so she’s got a very versatile and potent ability at her disposal. (It may also be that her shortened lifespan had something to do with the distribution of her power.)

Oh man I forgot I had these Huan and Luthien headcanons floating around… I should bring back this character meme! It was good brain fodder… :3
