“Don’t think I don’t see you over there – laughing at my misery, brother….!”

“Not laughing… merely observing.
It seems you’re in quite a desperate predicament. I did not wish to intervene immediately, I know you to be a wily and resourceful old fox. I thought it would be rude to damage your pride by offering you assistance preemptively.

Of course, if the situation has become truly dire, you need only say so! Ask, and the doors of Barad-dûr will open for you, and my protection will be yours.

You will, however, owe me a favor.”

He grit his teeth at that, trying not to be furious about the whole situation. He WAS resourceful yes, and he was far from helpless even in this form, but there was no way for him to tell friend from foe. What bothered him the most that he couldn’t count on his wraiths…! He had created them – he knew their ‘weaknesses’ as well as their skills….
Problem is he was a perfectionist and they were specifically designed to kill mortal men. He could barely even speak to Murazôr at this point without risking being poisoned…!

“… I thank you for your confidence in me, brother – it is not misplaced. However I did not live this long by following my pride and nothing else – no matter what people may think of me. I know when to push my pride for the sake of survival and strategic advantages, and this is such a moment” he admitted.
“I can hold off orcs and men and elves, but not our wraiths. I’m afraid they’re too great and powerful for this body to handle much longer.
…. I humbly ask for your protection until this curse leaves me in 24 hours, and I will be in your debt”

They shared the same goals after all – How bad could it be?

“Then we have a deal.” He inclined his head.

“Aah, how miserable it is to learn how fragile one’s alliances are when the light of order is blown out…

Does your ring no longer bind them in this state? Disturbing news, if so. It ought to act as a reserve of your power, even if your own is depleted… that is what we designed it for, after all. How troubling. I’d like to study that connection more closely, if you don’t mind. This is an impossibly rare opportunity to study the effects of my own ring in the event of disaster! …If you have no objections, of course.

Come! The safest place for you now is in the Sammath Naur. I will guard you personally.

Your blood is in the water, and more powerful enemies than traitors and wraiths may be stirring.”
