“….gold or silver?”

Gold. Always gold.

Gold were the fires that birthed the world in chaos, and spilled from the molten crevasses of Earth. Gold soaks the bellies of clouds as the sun dies, and gold fall the screaming ribbons from a crucible. Gold, the eyes of preying beasts, the backs of lions; gold, the secret cells of honeycomb, the tongues of liars, the temptress of greed. Gold are the hoards of my dragons, the seat of my throne; gold are the floors of hell! Gold bears my seal, my stamp; it is the metal of my desire and all who crave it carry a piece of me in their hearts.

They say I cannot create, only twist and corrupt what already was; this is a lie. The truth they know, and fear: I have always had power over the purest elements– fire that scours, ice that halts, darkness that existed before the light touched it, and perfect, incorruptible gold.

Hey, it’s June, and Munday Monday, and I’m almost done with me re-read, so I figure this is an auspicious time to give a shout out to the friend who gave me this STUNNING edition of LotR, illustrated by Alan Lee.

I have provided pictures so that you may marinate in envy of this kingly gift.

I cannot provide pictures of my friend because I do not think she is on tumblr but I want you to imagine the tallest, most gorgeous redhead you can, who could probably destroy you, except she is too sweet and cuddly.

This is my very round-about way of giving thanks for the generosity of one of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and a Friendly Pride Reminder to cherish the trans women in your life, who are sent directly from heaven.

This book is, unquestionably, one of my most prized treasures; reading it has made me incredibly happy. I kind of exploded when she gave it to me a few years ago, and I am so grateful to have friends like her– which is to say, much, much cooler than me, incredibly generous, wicked hot, and with great taste in literature.

I probably don’t deserve a book or friends this good, because I am a reclusive trash hermit, but I am so, so thankful nonetheless. ❤

Fleshing out the Babe

lindethiel:

so because I realize that one of the hard parts about having an OC versus a Canon muse is that people know one and not the other, I’m going to start trying to write/post weekly drabbles or headcanons here. some things will be more in-depth, some just little musings, but each with the hope of sharing more of my babe and maybe getting some more interactions for her.

if there are any parts of her story or past you’re super curious about, please send me some asks with prompts or questions to help me flesh her out for everyone.

the actual drill heads used in real tunneling machinery are much more awesome looking than the simple cone in every single cartoon and video game. Where did that cone come from? Was that ever used at all? I can’t really find anything on it. What’s the real history of giant drills.
