this looks ridiculous (frankly, it is) but it’s a lecture on punctuating between two sets of quotation marks that i decided to illustrate with @theotherwesley‘s sauron and melkor. i hope it’s illuminating. Remember: two independent clauses need a full stop, a dependent clause needs a comma.
i hate sponges too, sauron. melkor never squeezes them enough.
