elf babies are slim and eldritch twig-toed creatures that slide out of their mothers long as cats. they eat little and smell of fog and have ears like aerials, always rotating, absorbing every mote of sound around them. for the first several years they do nothing but absorb and say nothing at all. they are bald and hairless as carrots. after some years they begin to speak with alacrity and insight, and grow hair in great waterfalls all the way down to their feet. their ear extensions fall off and leave behind the leaf shaped appendages of adult elves. their pupils settle and their eyes pick a hue; they stop emitting mist and begin to eat normally. their toes are still long.

elf babies are quite a bit like human babies. finrod is a good-hearted bachelor prince who has never had to care for a baby or change a diaper in his life and shits from tiny bottoms are things that happened centuries ago in a distant land under the care of diligent nurses and are now, like infants themselves, utter mysteries to him.

@i-gwarth, my unending source of strongly-worded encouragements to get into LOTR suggested me to try giving Sauron my own spin. I went with pre whatever-the-heck-that-knight-in-the-movies-was version.
It needs work, we’ll see about that. I plan to read the Ring-trilogy once i get my hands on The Hobbit-book.
