Nov 2015–Oct 2016 Dark Lord Centerfold – RivkaZ

I repainted this bit of Dark Lord pinup as an exercise and… I really like the results?? I’ve been working really, really hard this year to improve my foundational art skills; I’m in the middle of a super frustrating learning curve where I can’t look at my old art without going “ew” and I can’t perfectly implement the new skills I’ve acquired yet. Everything feels very clunky right now, in between stages of development. I figured this would be a perfect time to try and rework an old painting and see how I could improve it.

Myths Transformed has some of the clearest snippets of Melkor and Sauron’s motivations and personalities, and this is a great break-down for those interested!

I spend a lot of time thinking about one the points mentioned here, i.e. why a maia whose core motivations are centered around order and control would ally himself to a vala who is bent on “nihilism” (or in my personal interpretation, chaos / anarchy).  Like many, I have my own ways of interpreting the constellation of info-dots left to us by Tolkien, but this offers a very reasonable explanation. As I said– very good break down over all. 🙂

So Sauron, how did you feel when Luthien made you her bitch?

As I know this question was meant to insult me, and you must have little interest in hearing a detailed explanation of why I failed to keep the fortress at Tol-en-Gaurhoth, I will say only this:

I remember very clearly what I felt. I remember what my rage and horror turned me into when I fled the field.

With such contemptuous language, I suspect you think I will give way again to shame, and ignore your spiteful tongue. You are wrong.

I will answer your question by showing you, first hand, what it feels like to try and breathe without a throat.

[Sauron] loved order and co-ordination and disliked all confusion and wasteful friction. It was the apparent will and power of Melkor to effect his designs quickly and masterfully that had first attracted Sauron to him.
