Wieliczka salt mine, Poland
In southern Poland, Lake Wessel lies inky and unmoving in the deep. Filling the bottom of an old salt mine, it’s just one component of the UNESCO World Heritage Site which has been a functioning mine since the 13th century. Featuring supreme carpentry, centuries-old brickwork and ornate salt-crystal chandeliers in cavernous dining rooms, this fantastical setting is a favorite for the Polish film industry. The mine’s attractions include dozens of statues and four chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners. The older sculptures have been supplemented with new carvings made by contemporary artists. About 1.2 million people visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine annually.
… I’ve found my new home.
I happened upon a very rare pleasure of commissioning @em-niwa, whose art is not only gorgeous but they are themselves.
Such is the Awakening of the Elves by Eru Ilúvatar near the Bay of Cuiviénen and the meeting of Oromë. It features a personal character of my own regard who is personal to my creative muse.
lil’ comic I did! @ohmyarda seduced me with her gentility and sweetness, if you were wondering.

Geek’s Guide to Britain: PUZZLEWOOD, speculative fiction’s universal forest
A magical woodland near the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, Puzzlewood will look super-familiar when you visit it. The reason for this is that it is an ancient adorable woodland within easy reach of Bristol and Cardiff, where a lot of BBC filming takes place. Whenever the Beeb needs to film something in a forest they just go here. More recently, the Star Wars movie did a lot of woodland shoots here and a lot of the forest/tree location they used are the same trees as in Merlin, Doctor Who, etc. IT’S THE SAME DAMN ROCKS. THESE ARE THE GENERIC MOSSY ROCKS. I just
Tolkien was known to have drawn on Puzzlewood for aesthetic inspiration.
Rowling grew up near-ish to it, and set a good portion of the Epic Harry Potter Camping Trip in the Forest of Dean; scenes from the movie were duly filmed in Puzzlewood.
So this is the Generic Forest. But fun for your own photo shoot! And within reasonable striking distance of Bristol and Cardiff.
