A) no, that ship has been around for as long as the book has. (i’m serious, there’s even a russian stage musical about their relationship. it’s… magical you should look it up XD) B) never once did I ever claim to have started the ship. we’re talking about the shipname on tumblr, i.e. the term “Angbang”
I think the actual chronology of the name goes something like: Angbandstyle makes a joke about “Angband” sounding like… something else –> me internalizing their excellent first class humor –> me taking vote in fandom to name the preexisting ship and coining “angbang” as an option –> the ship is christened, the bottle breaks upon the bow, and sails into the sunset.
SO IN A ROUNDABOUT AND CONVOLUTED WAY, KINDA, yeah. Yeah. Let that be my crowning accomplishment in life. ∠( ✧︿✧)ᕗ
I mean, I’m generally in favor of orcs and smuttiness no matter the scenario, even if my personal headcanons would make it somewhat unfeasible (not impossible! just unlikely) since Melkor views them as his children and Sauron tends to think of them as expendable foot soldiers. BUT ME, I LOVE A GOOD ORC-GY.
It’s actually not in any of the book. The name “Mairon was only mentioned once, and in probably the most obscure location (which is why you didn’t find it, and I never would have without some google-fu) – a note on one of the essays published in the journal Parma Eldalamberon:
But this was altered after he was suborned by Melkor. But he continued to call himself Mairon the Admirable, or Tar-mairon ‘King Excellent’, until after Númenor’s downfall.
The specific reference is as follows:
J.R.R. Tolkien, “Words, Phrases and Passages in Various Tongues in The Lord of the Rings”, in Parma Eldalamberon17 (edited by Christopher Gilson), p. 183.
THAT IS A VERY GOOD REFERENCE BUT CAN WE ALL JUST TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THE SHEER, MAJESTIC CHUTZPAH OF THE NAME “KING EXCELLENT”
