I’m not sure precisely what reputation you have in the whole of this fandom but for me I think you have the most well-rounded and researched concept and best understanding of Sauron’s character and I just love seeing your posts.

*wheeze*  thank you frend i am not worthy but thank you

So about “what you are known for in the fandom” I was talking to an acquaintance awhile ago about other blogs that have great meta and I mentioned you, but they couldn’t place who you were precisely and when they finally remembered they just exclaimed “THE GIANT DWARF SAURON!” lmfao.

THAT PLEASES ME SO MUCH X’D

Sauron gladly accepts his honorary-Khuzd status by virtue of hairiness.

i-gwarth:

lieutenant-of-darkness:

Okay, but the mirror of Erised in Middle Earth.

More specifically in Angband. After the Silmaril is stolen.

Melkor stands in front of it and he sees himself in all his might, not bound to the body of flesh, like he is now. He’s wearing the crown with all three Silmarils again, his hands are unburned. The corpses of his enemies are lying on the floor and all other Valar kneel at his feet.

And then Mairon walks up to him and asks Melkor why he stares at the mirror the way he does “It’s just a normal mirror.”

Melkor frowns at him, but he doesn’t understand

I love this idea. Sauron would see nothing at first. He is as self-assured and satisfied as anyone could be.

If possession of the mirror would pass to him in later ages however… perhaps in the early Second Age he could see himself bright and powerful, respected once again in the lands of the Valar, with lesser Maiar surrounding him in supplicant admiration. As time goes on the image would change. Slowly, in barely perceivable ways the image would pull back, extending the domain of his influence. He would see himself lord over those surrounding him, a kingdom the size of the Eastern Lands, all dedicated to his power. Further and further out the image would pan, encompassing the East, West and South of Middle Earth. Numernor, swallowed by the sea or beaconed by a citadel dedicated to Morgoth. To himself, Morgoth reborn.

Then he falls, and spends an untold time outside of his own body. As he whispers and cheats himself back into existence, he gazes upon the mirror once again. It is the Third Age, and all he sees is a blazing wheel of fire. The One Ring.

And he wonders… am I seeing a reflection of myself, or my own deepest desire?

soon as i have time to write thoroughly and thoughtfully and hunt down the appropriate textual sources i need to write a piece on how Melkor represents anarchy and chaos rather than nihilism and why tolkien wrote one character but then described that character metatextually as something completely different and why he’s wrong about his own canon
