Headcanon: Depictions of Melkor in Numenor did not include his crown of Silmarils. Certainly, many statues and paintings portrayed him crowned (for he is, King of the World, after all), but not with those jewels. All artistic renderings were supervised by Melkor’s high priest, and Mairon did not wish to be reminded of the cause of his Master’s downfall. Melkor’s power, his glory, his darkness – these were worshipful. Not gems crafted by lesser beings. If any who knew of history had suggested depicting the Silmarils, it is likely Mairon would have had them put to death.
