Writing Meme

Where do you publish your work?
Mostly here these days, but I like to archive on other sites. I used to have an FF.net account but I haven’t checked back in approximately 8 titbillion years. One of my longer (unfinished) fics is on WordPress.
Whenever I get around to finalizing and editing my Silmarillion fics, I archive them at the Silmarillion Writer’s Guild, while the “rough” versions stay on tumblr.

What medium/application/etc. do you write in or with?
I used to do everything in Word but these days I like to use TextEdit. It feels less complicated, less distracting, less set in stone, so it’s easier for me to edit. Also, textedit doesn’t try and think for you or add any secret formatting whICH IS NICE.

Do you collaborate with others?
Sometimes! The aforementioned long abandoned fic was a collab between Ash and me. 🙂 We used to write a lot together. I still really enjoy editing for him because he has great ideas.

And obviously I like to roleplay. :U

How much editing do you do before you publish?
SO MUCH. I can’t stop. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of writing, but I tend to do it to excess because I can always make things better. I do a lot of shameful editing months or even years after I publish stuff. XD It’s a weakness.

Do you listen to music when you write?
Sometimes it helps me visualize specific moments or nail down a mood, sometimes it’s just distracting. I actually like to listen to “battle music” while writing fight scenes because it helps me write action to the beat… if that makes sense.

How do you decide what to write about?
Fuck if I know. Whatever cinematics happen in my brain?

When do you write?
In manic, sleep-deprived bursts, all night. Night is good because it’s got fewer distractions and it feels like “me time”, even though I’m unemployed and really all my time is me time. >v>;;;

I go through phases where I can’t write at all, and then phases where all I can do is write. I can’t predict when that happens, unfortunately. Also, like most things that trigger my hyper-focus, it royally fucks my sleep schedule, so sometimes if I’ve got other obligations to attend to, I can’t even afford to start :

How often do you write?
Again, whenever my brain lets me, and then obsessively until the project is either complete or I cap out on ideas/energy.

Do you take requests? Why/why not?
No. I can “force” myself to draw mechanically but I have a lot more trouble forcing myself to write, especially for ideas that aren’t my own. I do like writing prompts, but I don’t think I could do requests. Just, physically, I don’t think I could do them.

Is there any genre or type of story you want to write but are hesitant to?
I have to overcome a barrier of Cultural Shame whenever I write something that feels self-indulgent? XD

Any inspirational quotes, videos, tricks, articles, etc. that help you stay motivated?
It varies from piece to piece, but there’s almost always stuff that I watch or listen to in order to get excited about a story. Sometimes it’s music videos, or documentary footage of something related, or animation. Re-reading or re-watching source material is always good for getting back in the mood for doing fanfiction.
I’m a very visual person, so anything that helps me “see” what I’m writing with more clarity is inspiring to me.

Go to page 7 of your WIP, skip to the 7th line, and share 7 sentences.
I really don’t have anything at the moment! 😥 Sorry! The best I’ve got is like, story planning bullet points and half-formed story notes?  I’ve been in one of my long dry phases, plus I finished my most recent WIP fic, which I’m quite happy about! 🙂
