Salgant, Lord of the House of the Harp – R.Wesley Nipper 2017
“…Behind them came the host of the Harp, and this was a battalion of brave warriors; but their leader Salgant was a craven, and he fawned upon Maeglin. They were dight with tassels of silver and tassels of gold, and a harp of silver shone in their blazonry upon a field of black; but Salgant bore one of gold, and he alone rode into battle of all the sons of the Gondolithrim, and he was heavy and squat.” –from The Book of Lost Tales vol. II
Maeglin’s friend, Eärendil’s babysitter, and my favorite soft, good boy, Salgant. Best elf, A+, canonically chubby, you-can’t-prove-he-didn’t-survive-the-Fall-of-Gondolin-by-being-adopted-and-made-Official-Dragon-Babysitter-by-Melkor, fight me.
Another one of @squirrelwrangler ’s original designs, they are all so pretty. The roses were the most work and the symmetry is a little off, but otherwise I’m happy with it. I think it’s quite elvish in design, so perhaps a Doriath elf who was like ‘beautiful but quite literally with a lot of thorns this one’. And red commands attention like no other colour.
I also like the references to Beor and Hador. I tried to add more blue, but couldn’t fit it in.
I couldn’t resist this word, redolent of the flavour of a bygone age, when every ‘decent’ person had emerald cosmetics jars and the like littering their palaces. These pots were made of many substances (most often it must be admitted glass or glazed ceramic rather than precious beryl), and were designed to contain tallow based (animal fat) cosmetics, perfumed oils and medicines without absorbing their contents. They have been around since pre-Roman times, and were often interred with their owners, so are often found in excavations of ancient cemeteries.
